Accessing the Ahalama cluster
From inside the firewall
In a terminal window, you can log onto ahalama.md.biu.ac.il :
ssh YourUsername@ahalama.md.biu.ac.il
where YourUsername is your ahalama username.
The first time you'll connect, you'll get the following message:
The authenticity of host 'ahalama.md.biu.ac.il (132.71.18.3)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is 8d:5a:c5:f9:51:8f:1b:fd:07:b4:3f:bf:b4:5d:dc:67. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?
Type yes, and you'll get the regular SSH password prompt. Your login name and password on the master head node are your Ahalama username and password.
You should now be logged into the Ahalama cluster master head node, and be able to run your first jobs.
From outside the firewall
The Ahalama cluster is protected by a firewall, which requires prior login to a computer inside the firewall before allowing access the ahalama login node. Users must use an SSH client to log in to firewall. Unencrypted methods such as telnet, rlogin, and XDM are not allowed for accessing any of the cluster machines.
To access the on-campus computer, you'll need to:
open an SSH connection to the on-campus computer, using your firewall username and password.
ssh YourUsername@odem.md.biu.ac.il
Replace YourUsername with your Odem username.
If you are connecting for the very first time, you will see a message similar to the following, before arriving at the password prompt:
The authenticity of host 'odem.md.biu.ac.il (132.71.20.7)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is d1:a6:6a:c7:58:ed:bb:d0:ea:6b:28:c8:06:3e:05:84. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?
Type yes and you will then be asked to provide a password:
Password:
Once the correct password is provided, you are logged in behind the firewall:
Last login: Wed Feb 20 16:43:40 2012 from <host>
At this point, the connection to the computer behind the firewall allows your terminal to directly connect to the cluster master head node, which would be denied otherwise. As long as this terminal is maintained, you can ssh/scp/sftp/rsync as described above from your terminal to the cluster.
ssh YourUsername@ahalama.md.biu.ac.il
where YourUsername is your ahalama username.
